Cheers to the Teachers!
Gratitude to the Substack Teachers who made a difference for me in 2024.
Cheers to the teachers!
The teacher sees the struggle. They teach mechanics, craft and discipline.
Absorb the teaching and then you push off on your own. The freedom, the alchemy, the transformation gives a new perspective on life and opportunities. The world looks different and possibilities appear.
Thank you to the teachers of fitness, task, athletics and craft. You’re the best! Keep up the important service of helping others.
These are the ones who made a difference for me in 2024:

Oasis amongst the Chaos
Recently in a yoga class, we discussed that our brains don’t know the difference between imagination and real life. Interesting concept and actually reassuring that we have the control to take ourselves to an inner refuge anytime. My inner refuge is playing with my dog on the beach. I can imagine hugging her wet fur and watching her leap over the waves in search of a ball. It is the same with worry and fear. Imagining the worst scenario can feel very real in our bodies. If we have the awareness, then we can flip it and go to our island of inner refuge to calm the nervous system.
What is your inner refuge?
A deep breath can create calm especially if the exhale is extended. Certain breathing techniques can tap into the central nervous system and calm the body and mind.
Alternate nostril breathing to relax and reduce stress in your body.
Lightly press the right side of your nose closed, inhale left nostril, move your finger to close the left side and exhale into the right nostril, inhale right change and exhale left. Repeat for three rounds of breath.
In yoga, we link the breath with movement which creates the magic we feel during and after a yoga class. It helps to open up the body, gets the blood flowing and calms the nervous system.
A Yoga flow to drop inward, if only for the moment.
Seated Forward Bend
Down Dog
Child’s Pose
What is your inner refuge? I hope you find yours and use it when the chaos is too much. Reactions are in our control and yoga gives us the toolkit.
Join me every Monday for a 45 minute yoga class on Zoom (7:30am CT). Details can be found in the Founding Membership or message me.
Thank you!! You are so lovely. I feel like I’m learning a lot from you too. 💕
Thank you for the shoutout! I really appreciate it.
My inner refuge is slow, low breathing. Good for any situation.
And if I can close my eyes for a second, I imagine some nature fairies flirting around in a forest, taking care of the trees.
