Have you said lately, I need to do yoga? Or has your yoga fallen by the way side and you have said, I need to get back to yoga?
Join me! Let’s do this together in community.
The first week’s theme is to pick 3 poses you love. Hold each pose for 3 full deep breaths. Take it a step further and keep a journal close by to note what makes you love these poses or how your body and mind feel in the poses.
I will be adding 3 Yin Yoga poses before going to sleep. My yoga practice is typically in the morning and I would like to add some Yin to my nightly routine. I want this because I know focusing on my breath changes my thinking and will calm my nervous system. I’m using this challenge to establish the habit. I hope you will join me by adding what you want from yoga when you want it.
Benefits of a home practice:
-You set the stage with music, lighting or scents.
-No distractions (maybe) gives you more insight into body awareness.
-Your pet can join you.
-Choose the breathing techniques for what you want, energizing or calming.
-Better opportunity to go inward.
Here are a few ideas to get a home practice set up. Find a spot at home to roll out the mat and keep it handy and visible to spark the daily practice. Light a candle, have your favorite coffee/tea during this time or play music you love. Make it so inviting that you want to dive in and practice. Commit to 5-15 minutes a day just for you, even if you must wake up earlier, stay up later or close the door at the same time every day. A daily gift to you from you.
Pick 3 poses or a routine you like and that will help draw you to the mat. The rewards of accepting and completing the challenge are so valuable and ones you will not forget. A daily practice can have rewards of improved focus, release layers of tension and bring in overall body awareness. It is ideal to take notes throughout this journey because there will be days when finding 5-15 minutes is stressful and hard. There will be days when it is easy and relaxing. The journey is the best reward of any challenge or training.
Movement that feels good will have benefits that release stress, calm the mind and the nervous system.
Do what is best for you and your unique body. I hope that you give it a try and see how it unfolds for you. Empower You!
